 Campaign Resources Minimize 
Ten Steps to Campaign Success
  1. Recruit a Campaign Team and Coordinator.
  2. Meet with Loaned Executive / United Way staff – receive training – review company’s past performances.
  3. Set dates for United Way campaign and set a company campaign goal.
  4. Personalize pledge cards and send CEO endorsement letter.
  5. Distribute posters and promotional materials.
  6. Conduct employee group meetings and leadership giving campaign for management.
  7. Follow up with absentees.
  8. Submit campaign reports to United Way. (see direction in company envelope)
  9. Post final campaign results.
  10. Send “thank you” to employees and campaign team.

Incentive Prizes
Many of the local companies such as Kraft, Ferguson, Inc., and Fisher Diagnostics offer incentive prizes to the donors. At Kraft each donors get so many chances for each dollar donation for over 35 different gifts. At General Electric if you give over a certain dollar value you receive a free t-shirt. At Rubbermaid, employees receive company and its subsidiary companies products. These are just a few of the many companies that offer products or incentives for one-time donations or for payroll deductions. Following are a few sample incentive ideas:

  • "Sleep in late" days
  • Vacation days
  • Extra Breaks
  • Shortened work days
  • Discount cards for local vendors
  • Traveling Trophy for the department with the highest participation
  • Movie or theater passes
  • Company merchandise
  • UW merchandise
  • Gift certificates
Additional "Fun" Raising Ideas
During United Way campaign's fun ideas pop up all over the place. From Kiss the Pig at Valley Health Systems, to Pie the Manager at Southeastern Container, to a dunking tank for Managers at PolyOne. The United Way participants were having fun and helping others. We ask that you use some of these ideas and make your campaign as special as you can in 2006. You can make a difference with the United Way. Here are some more fun raising suggestions:
 
  • United Way parking space drawing, one person each month
  • Paid Days off for everyone giving 1% of their salary
  • Dress Down Day for those giving $2 per pay period
  • Silent Auctions
  • Chili Cook-off – Employees pay for bowls of chili after judges taste and rate it.
  • Clown for a Day, $1 per vote
  • Management Car Wash
  • Car Shows
  • Golf Tournaments
  • Donuts and the full 20 minute presentation on United Way
  • Random Pledge Card prizes – offer wacky prizes for the 14th pledge card, the neatest handwriting, the first pledge card turned in, etc.
  • Host an International Lunch – have employees bring in ethnic dishes for pot luck, charge $5 per plate.
  • "In Bad Taste" contest – have the executive team wear their ugliest ties, jewelry, shoes, etc. Employees vote for the ugliest item; $1 per vote. The Executive with the most votes is declared the winner.
  • Have a battle between different locations, shifts, or departments to see who has the best UW results either by the percent of participation or campaign amount raised. The winner gets a prize such as a pizza party, free drinks from the vending machine, etc.

  • Have group presentations
  • Letter from CEO or personal endorsement at group presentation

  • Employee testimonials (great if during group presentation)
  • Food or clothing drive for United Way agency
  • Agency tours
  • Speakers or agency fair
  • United Way quiz with prizes for most correct answers
  • Thermometers posted with goal progress

  • 7% of our adult population is affected by mental and developmental disabilities. Thanks to your United Way dollars these individuals can pursue their work dreams.
  • 88% of every dollar raised goes to support health and human care needs in the area. Only 12% goes toward management and general and fundraising expenses.
  • Alzheimer's disease affects 10% of our senior population. Thanks to United Way supported Adult Care and support services our older citizens have an outlet for positive interaction.
  • Domestic violence affects the entire family. This past year you helped over 120 children find a safe haven at United Way supported shelter services.
  • Babies don't come with instruction books. Thanks to your support new mothers in Shenandoah County are providing parenting information and healthy family support.
  • Thanks to your United Way support all military personnel and reservists know how to access emergency message services provided by the Red Cross.
  • Having a positive role model makes a difference. Last year you helped over 45 children have fun and companionship with a Big Brother or Sister.
  • Thanks to your support of day caring and after school programs like Winchester Day Nursery, Fremont Street Nursery and Caretakers over 149 youngsters had a safe place to go to play and meet with friends after school.
