Educational success
United Way Impact Grants
In 2017, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winchester Frederick & Clarke Counties will receive a $13,000 grant for their site based menoring program called BigTIME. TIME is an acronym for Teaching, Impacting, Mentoring, and Encouraging. The Big Brothers Big Sisters model of one-to-one mentoring has the ability to make an impact to help reduce truancy and increase the on-time graduation rate for at-risk youth. The longevity and focused relationships that develop between a Big Brother or Big Sister volunteer and his/her Little Brother or Little Sister, helps them navigate life’s waters, including academic support and encouragement to graduate on time. Big Brothers Big Sisters are partners with parents, teachers and guidance counselors to help children be prepared for the next step along their school career, as well as providing a positive, same gender adult role model.
