Juneteenth: Freedom and Equality
Today, we join the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a significant day in American history. On this day in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, reminds us of the enduring fight for equality and justice.
United Way NSV Names Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy Interim President/CEO
With the recent resignation of Kaycee Childress as President and CEO of United Way Northern Shenandoah Valley, the organization has named Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy as the Interim President/CEO until the search committee can complete the work of filling the position.
United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley's 2023 Campaign Success
On February 29, 2024, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and gratitude as nearly 125 community members and business leaders gathered at Laurel Ridge Community College to celebrate the culmination of United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley's (UWNSV) 2023 Campaign. The theme of the night, "Be the Change: Empowering with Passion to Make the Impossible Happen," set the tone for an evening filled with appreciation and recognition.
United Way NSV Accepting Applications for Phase 41 of the National Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)
(Winchester, VA, March 15, 2024) – The National Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) has announced an award to the City of Winchester of $9,633 for Phase 41 to be used by local agencies to assist households living in the City of Winchester.
United Way celebrates 78 years of Living United During Annual Meeting
United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley held a celebration to celebrate its 2023 Campaign. Nearly 125 community members and business leaders who generously contributed through workplace campaigns, special events and individual gifts for the fundraising campaign, gathered at Laurel Ridge Community College on February 29, 2024 to celebrate the campaign and the night’s theme, “Be the Change: Empowering with Passion to Make the Impossible Happen”.
United Way NSV Opens 2024 Impact Grant Submissions
(Winchester, VA) January 2, 2024 – United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley (UWNSV) is inviting local nonprofits to apply for the 2024-2025 Community Impact Grant Program. The intent of the grant program is to respond to local priority needs as established through the United Way Community Needs Assessment process, in the areas of health, education, and financial stability.
Winchester Receives Federal Funding to Support Local Residents in Need
In a bid to bolster assistance to vulnerable households within the City of Winchester, the National Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) has announced a substantial award of $9,633 for Phase 41. This funding will be instrumental in providing crucial support to local agencies, ensuring they can effectively serve those in need within the community.
