United Way Celebrates 18th Annual MLK Youth Outreach Event

On Monday, January 15th, over 100 student volunteers from John Handley High School Interact Club, the Winchester NAACP Youth Council program and Frederick and Clarke County High Schools gathered together in partnership with the United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley for a day of service to celebrate the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. and to highlight the importance of service to others. As a part of the now eighteen-year tradition, volunteers packaged and distribute donated items and informational materials to families in the North End of Winchester.

Donated items were sourced from Rubbermaid Products, area agencies, and local non-profits. Packaging will took place immediately following a short presentation from feature speaker, Znyah Johnson, a 13-year-old Youth NAACP 7th grader from DMMS.

Distribution proceeded until approximately 12PM at various locations/neighborhoods in the North End. The project honors the memory of Dr. King by recognizing his belief that “everybody can be great...because everybody can serve”.
