Day of Caring is a powerful, one-day volunteer event that brings together over 900 community members to complete hands-on projects that directly benefit 75+ local nonprofits across the Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Every year, United Way’s Day of Caring brings our community together in powerful ways. More than 900 volunteers step out of their daily routines to roll up their sleeves—painting, repairing, planting, cleaning, and organizing—to help local nonprofits take care of the projects that too often get pushed to the side.

This isn’t just about fixing buildings or pulling weeds. It’s about making sure nonprofits can stay focused on what matters most: serving children, families, and neighbors in need. When volunteers give their time, they save nonprofits thousands of dollars, stretch limited budgets further, and create space for them to deliver programs that change lives.

Why It Matters

Across our region, nonprofits are on the front lines of meeting urgent needs—but too often, stretched budgets mean basic upkeep and repairs take a back seat. Day of Caring changes that. By bringing people power to projects, we strengthen the infrastructure of our nonprofits, free up precious resources, and build lasting connections across the community.

Day of Caring is more than a one-day event. It’s proof of what happens when we come together to lift up our neighbors—and each other.
