Major COVID-19 Funding Announcement

Major Relief Fund Announcement
United Way NSV has launched the COVID-19 Relief Fund to address the emerging needs presented by the impact from COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We are here - UNITED - to support our community and improve lives.

To aid in the response, United Way has set aside $50,000 in emergency funds to match dollar-for-dollar any public donations up to $50,000.

United Way NSV will underwrite all costs associated with the fund, 100% of all donated funds will go directly to COVID-19 response and relief efforts.

Relief funds will increase resiliency in disproportionately affected communities by addressing the immediate, unmet needs of working families due to sudden loss of income caused by COVID-19 related closures.

Immediate, unmet needs may include:
  • Food and food supplies
  • Prescription and medical supplies
  • Mortgage payments for homes or businesses/Rental assistance
  • Car repairs or payments
  • Utility payments
  • Child care

United Way NSV is uniquely positioned to handle this large-scale effort, as it has a long history of leading emergency funds for community needs and those that address crisis situations. All funds will stay in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, helping families in Winchester City, Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah and Page Counties.

COVID-19 Resource Site
As concerns over COVID-19 continue to grow, so do the financial implications for businesses and employees. People are losing work as businesses close and many families who already live paycheck to paycheck are struggling to make ends meet. United Way NSV and the Valley Assistance Network (VAN) are closely monitoring the developments happening at all levels of government in order to stay up-to-date on resources and assistance available for those who are impacted.

A few words from our CEO
In our community, 1 in 4 households teeter above the edge of poverty. These families are working, contributing to our community, and doing everything they can to stay afloat. Additionally, 1 in 8 families live in poverty with more significant challenges. This means that nearly a third of our population cannot easily weather prolonged economic turmoil. These people are our neighbors, they cannot afford to miss a day of work, they cannot afford a costly doctor's bill.

We can think of no greater priority today than for us, as a community, to ensure that the basic needs of all our friends and neighbors are being met. This is why our Board of Directors has pledged a $50,000 match of donations, utilizing money from our emergency funds to be there for our community in a time of need.

Your support of the United Way NSV's COVID-19 Relief Fund allows us to immediately respond to the community’s developing needs - and help quickly where it is needed in the days and weeks ahead. 100% of all donations made at this time to the COVID-19 Relief Fund will go directly to relief efforts.

Please join me in making a gift to the COVID-19 Relief Fund now. It’s important for our community’s health and for our community’s character. This is the time to show up for people in need.
