Empowering Northern Shenandoah Valley: United Way's 2024-2025 Community Impact Grant Program

In an ongoing effort to address the critical needs of communities in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, the United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley (UWNSV) is once again extending an invitation to local nonprofits to participate in the 2024-2025 Community Impact Grant Program. With a focus on health, education, and financial stability, this initiative aims to allocate resources where they're most needed, as determined through a thorough Community Needs Assessment process.

The foundation of the 2024-2025 Impact Grants lies in comprehensive research, incorporating insights from the 2023 ALICE® Report and the latest Community Needs Assessment for the region. These reports, readily accessible on UWNSV’s website, serve as guiding documents in identifying priority areas for intervention and support.

Nonprofits interested in securing funding are required to submit letters of intent by January 12, 2024, through the online grant portal, Community Force. The subsequent full grant application is due on February 16, 2024, with a mandatory virtual training session for all applicants.

To be eligible for consideration, organizations must meet specific criteria outlined by United Way, including operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, serving the Northern Shenandoah Valley catchment area, and maintaining financial transparency and accountability. Additionally, successful applicants will demonstrate their commitment to using funds in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, as well as their ability to fulfill post-award reporting requirements.

Reflecting on the impact of the previous year's grants, the UWNSV disbursed $525,000 across 46 programs, addressing a spectrum of needs across the region. The overwhelming demand, with requests totaling over $1 million, underscores the urgency and significance of initiatives like the Community Impact Grant Program.

Integral to the grant allocation process are the dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and expertise. Over 60 community members participate in reviewing applications, conducting site visits, and presenting recommendations to the United Way NSV Board of Directors for final approval. As the program continues to grow, United Way NSV is actively seeking additional volunteers to join this vital effort. Find out how to volunteer here
